ALL BEACHES<br />
We will improve the lifeguard service,<br />
providing a better and more qualified<br />
force starting earlier in the year.<br />
We will also ensure that toilet and<br />
changing facilities are available when<br />
beaches are in use. Additionally,<br />
we shall ensure our beaches are as<br />
accessible as possible.<br />
NATURE, OUTDOOR<br />
AREAS AND BIODIVERSITY<br />
THE UPPER ROCK AND BEYOND<br />
The protection of nature and<br />
improvements to natural habitats and<br />
biodiversity have seen considerable<br />
progress over the past eight years.<br />
INVESTMENT<br />
We will continue to invest in the Upper<br />
Rock, as an area for the enjoyment<br />
of residents of Gibraltar as well as<br />
tourists. We will make improvements<br />
to the way the Upper Rock is run to<br />
incorporate the recommendations of<br />
the Upper Rock Management Plan.<br />
BIODIVERSITY<br />
We will take all necessary action to<br />
prevent biodiversity loss in the Gibraltar<br />
Nature Reserve and throughout<br />
Gibraltar, with management measures<br />
to halt this and to restore natural<br />
balance in our wildlife.<br />
BATTERIES RESTORED<br />
We will restore heritage buildings<br />
and batteries on the Upper Rock and<br />
convert them into interpretation and<br />
educational facilities, including a Field<br />
Centre for the schools.<br />
PATHS MAINTAINED<br />
We will continue to maintain paths<br />
and habitats on the Upper Rock, and<br />
throughout the Gibraltar Nature<br />
Reserve.<br />
NEW NATURE TRAILS<br />
We will open up new paths within the<br />
Nature Reserve, to separate walkers<br />
from traffic, and create a new coastal<br />
walk along the east coastline north<br />
from Europa Point.<br />
MORE INTERPRETATION<br />
We will increase interpretation by<br />
providing information panels on natural<br />
and historical heritage throughout.<br />
This will include producing information<br />
booklets on wildlife and heritage for<br />
visitors.<br />
TREE PRESERVATION ORDERS<br />
We will issue Tree Preservation Orders<br />
for all trees that are known to hold<br />
regular significant roosts of birds.<br />
SMART LIGHTING<br />
We will provide smart and sensitive<br />
lighting in all areas that are used as<br />
habitat by bats and nocturnal birds,<br />
and remove unnecessary lighting<br />
where this is not necessary, further<br />
helping to reduce our carbon footprint.<br />
MACAQUES<br />
As we have done over recent years, we<br />
will continue to ensure that as much<br />
as possible our Barbary macaques<br />
remain outside urban areas, and will<br />
deal promptly, but humanely with<br />
incursions into built up areas. We will<br />
increase research into their biology and<br />
