HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES IN<br />
SCHOOLS<br />
We will consult with the teaching<br />
profession with a view to introducing<br />
new roles such as that of School<br />
Social Worker, Welfare Support<br />
Worker and School Nurses with a<br />
Specialist Community Public Health<br />
Qualification. We will also enhance<br />
pastoral support teams in the schools,<br />
in particular the secondary schools and<br />
the College.<br />
GHA / EDUCATION<br />
COLLABORATION<br />
We will improve collaborative<br />
arrangements between the<br />
Department of Education and the GHA<br />
which will facilitate access to those<br />
children and young adults who most<br />
need specialist mental health treatment<br />
and an integrated care pathway.<br />
PUPIL REFERRAL UNIT<br />
We will work across departments<br />
and agencies to provide facilities for<br />
children and young people who need<br />
additional support within a pupil<br />
referral unit.<br />
NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND<br />
EDUCATION<br />
Digital technologies are expanding and<br />
it is important for Gibraltar to have the<br />
skills required by the industry. The<br />
Curriculum is being reformed is to tackle<br />
the skills gaps in industry in line with<br />
the <strong>GSLP</strong> Liberal vision for Gibraltar.<br />
CODING & COMPUTER SCIENCE<br />
We will introduced Computer<br />
Science in secondary sector at<br />
GCSE and A Level. A Coding and<br />
Computational-thinking curriculum<br />
will be developed for the primary<br />
sector. The New curriculum will see<br />
introduction of a Digital Technologies<br />
vocational pathway at GCSE and A<br />
Level equivalent. We will deliver an<br />
Extended Diploma which would allow<br />
students to specialise in different<br />
fields such as Cyber Security, Business<br />
Analysis, System Infrastructure,<br />
Telecoms, Cabling and Web design and<br />
Social media for e-commerce.<br />
STEM INITIATIVE<br />
We will compliment the excellent<br />
work being done by our students<br />
in the Cyber Security field by the<br />
introduction of a new STEM based<br />
initiative spanning from the primary<br />
sector through to the Gibraltar<br />
College. We will also provide for the<br />
introduction of a new coding / robotics<br />
based initiative. This will be further<br />
complemented by the development of<br />
a new extra curricular coding school.<br />
RUNNING EDUCATION<br />
We will carry out a review of Education<br />
in Gibraltar, and consider ways of<br />
providing a more effective service<br />
which will be efficient and better cater<br />
both for the professionals, teachers<br />
and non-teachers within it and for<br />
the children and young people going<br />
through education.<br />
EDUCATIONAL ADVISORS<br />
We will increase the complement<br />
of Educational Advisors by two, and<br />
revise their roles to focus on education<br />
and on supporting teachers and<br />
schools rather than on administration,<br />
by providing them with enhanced<br />
support.<br />
LEGAL REVIEW<br />
At the same time we will complete our<br />
review of the out of date Education<br />
and Training Act.<br />
EDUCATION COUNCIL<br />
We will revive the Education Council,<br />
to include representation from parents,<br />
teachers, union, and other experienced<br />
persons to advise on Education<br />
Policy. This will include persons who<br />
have left the service (Headteachers,<br />
Directors of Education, Advisors,<br />
Deputy Heads etc).<br />
POLICY UPDATE<br />
We will develop and update policies<br />
on issues such as bullying, health and<br />
safety, use of mobile devices, etc.<br />
DIGITAL DEPARTMENT<br />
We will undergo a process of full<br />
digitalisation of the Department of<br />
Education.<br />
