Even at 1000°C, ΔG is very positive (324 kJ/mol), <strong>and</strong> there is no obvious way to obtain lithium metal using a<br />

different reaction. Hence in the industrial preparation of metallic lithium, electrical energy is used to drive the<br />

reaction to the right, as described inChapter 19 "Electrochemistry".<br />

A reaction that does not occur under st<strong>and</strong>ard conditions can be made to occur under nonst<strong>and</strong>ard<br />

conditions, such as by driving the reaction to completion using Le Châtelier’s principle or by providing<br />
