ADVENTURE
The Ten Tors campaign starts
in September with pupils from
Year 9-13 signing up to take
on the challenge of walking 35, 45 or
55 miles over Dartmoor in May. The
training consists of 10 months of hard
work, most of which takes place in the
dark, cold winter months which pushes
pupils and staff to their limit.
This year we had particularly strong
winds and heavy rain on a number
of the training walks which made for
really tough going and even forced the
cancellation of one training weekend.
It did not put off the determined and
driven Ten Tors teams though and this
year for the first time in many we had
more than enough solid Year 9 and 10
pupils to select 3 teams from for the
35 mile distance. After all that hard
work and the teams demonstrating
incredible team work and leadership on
the Mount Kelly expedition to complete
their final practice walk it was time to
head back to the Ten Tors event after a
two year break due to Covid-19.
The event had all the festival
atmosphere from before and was a
fantastic experience for all of our 24
pupils who were selected to take part.
Mount Kelly entered 3 x 35 mile teams
and 1 x 45 mile team this year and
after a very early start on Saturday the
teams were ready to complete their
routes. The tension at the start was
brilliant with everyone waiting for the
canons to go so that they could finally
get underway. Saturday saw a full
day of walking with teams navigating
their way to their 7th or 8th tors for all
teams with very few dramas along the
way. Another early start on Sunday
saw all teams up and away for 0600
ready to complete their routes. Proud
and glowing parents met the teams at
the finish for pasties and medals as all
teams finished across the line complete
with 6 members and all before 1330 in
the afternoon.
An awesome achievement by all
involved, again showing the Mount
Kelly values to the full in order get
themselves and their complete teams
around the event. Thanks must go
to all of the staff and parent volunteers
who help throughout the year in order
to train and prepare the pupils for this
challenging and life changing event.

MOUNT KELLY EXPEDITION
& PRACTICE WALKS
Almost 70 pupils took on the long-awaited Mount Kelly
Expedition. Four different routes were followed by the Ten
Tors teams (35 and 45 miles) and the Duke of Edinburgh
Silver and Gold teams to complete their practice walk.
The weather was kind with plenty of sunshine but with a
biting wind on the top of the moor. All pupils displayed the
Mount Kelly values of courage, grit, determination and great
teamwork. Congratulations must go to all of the pupils who
have completed the training this year in some very tough
conditions.
