ERNIE’S INCREDIBLE ILLUCINATIONS &
ALICE IN WONDERLAND - YEAR 7
The Lent Term saw the Year 7s
return to the stage to perform in
their English classes, two plays
across two nights. 7SGB and 7PAC
performed Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations
and 7ARL and 7RPM performed a version
of Alice in Wonderland, in rhyme. Pupils
performed and took charge of the lighting
and sound, a real group effort.
ERNIE’S INCREDIBLE
ILLUCINATIONS
Ernie, son of Albert and Ethel, is having
trouble with his imagination and is taken
to the Doctor to see if he can help. There
follows a series of ‘incidents’ involving an
invasion of soldiers in the family home;
Auntie May becoming a heavyweight
boxing champion and a mountain rescue
in the library, along with a dead body in
the reference section.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Having initially planned on a comic version
of A Christmas Carol before Christmas,
7ARL felt a fresh choice of play was
needed for a March performance. Along
with 7RPM, it was decided to put on
a version of the much-loved Alice in
Wonderland.
Rehearsal time was very limited, but the
class worked hard in their few sessions to
bring the script to life. Keziah Hutchins as
Alice and Zara Bennett as the Storyteller
both helped lead the cast strongly and
everyone contributed ideas for how to
develop the action on stage.
Particular mention must go to Charlie
Barnaby and Samuel Platts for their work
in creating sound and lighting effects
which really brought the play together,
and, along with Skye Allen’s creative
costume ideas, gave the traditional story
a modern twist. Faris O’Reilly bravely
stood in at the last minute due to illness,
meaning we had a full cast on the night.
Olivia Purnell’s brilliantly bossy Queen
of Hearts and Anara Davenport and
Eadie Fordy’s comical Tweedle Dee
and Tweedle Dum were well matched
by the moon-walking Mad Hatter
(Edward Mathieson) and the cheeky
Knave of Hearts (Gigi Sorensen – also
a very chilled March Hare). With Jack
McMeekin’s anxious White Rabbit, Gus
Dunn’s lugubrious Guard, Jake Whysall’s
adorable Dormouse and Will Thomas’s
nervous Footman, the whole class
engaged fully and pulled together to
create a really enjoyable show.
