CENTURY
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
In an article in the Times (Rachel Sylvester, The AI revolution can supercharge learning in school) much was made of Century.tech,
the platform we have adopted as a school to support our pupils’ learning. The founder and CEO of Century.tech, and member of
the government’s AI Council advisory board, Priya Lakhani, was quoted as saying “all schools will be using AI-powered teaching
and learning tools within three years”. When we see that nearly 1000 schools in the UK alone, including the likes of Eton, are using
Century.tech we can see that we are in good company.
IT’S THE CLIMB - MARKETING CAMPAIGN
SUCCESS
Mount Kelly placed 32nd in the global Winter Cup competition on use of Century, demonstrating that our pupils are engaging with
and benefitting from a significant platform in developing their learning and autonomy as learners. Pupils can access Century.tech
at any time, whether in school, at home or even... on holiday.
Last academic year, Mount Kelly pupils answered 466,959 questions in English, Maths and Science, using the Century AI learning
platform: a brilliant achievement!
Science came out on top as the most popular subject, and our pupils selected the happy or proud emotion 2,196 times. This is a
great reflection of their learning.
THE COGNITIVE SCIENCE NETWORK
Mount Kelly was delighted to announce that we are one of eleven
schools participating in the first Cognitive Science Network
aimed at helping schools to apply research findings from
cognitive science research for better teaching and learning. Mount Kelly
has been keen to establish both a research-based approach to teaching
and learning as well as seeking to develop greater Collective Teacher
Efficacy and improve the pupils’ skills and understanding in terms of
critical thinking and metacognition. The School has implemented discrete
critical thinking lessons for Year 9 pupils; if we project forward and the
theory and practice are gradually rolled out, in hand with continued staff
CPD, after five years these pupils will be in the final year of their A Level
studies. Joining the Cognitive Science Network will also allow us to
share high professional practice and understanding with other schools
who are pursuing a similar route for professional development and the
augmentation of current teaching and learning practice.
WE LAUNCHED A NEW MARKETING CAMPAIGN
TO PROMOTE THE SCHOOL

to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way
then Mount Kelly is the school for you.
The mountaineer Conrad Anker wrote that ‘the summit is what
drives us, but the climb itself is what matters’. Inspired by this,
at Mount Kelly we believe that our achievements lie not only in
the outcomes – examinations passed and races won – but in
the long hours of preparation, practice and training that leave
deep and positive impressions, long after the dust has settled.

At Mount Kelly we focus as much on the ‘how’ and the ‘why’,
as on the ‘what’; our staff understand that each step they take
with a pupil informs more than the final outcome.
Being a pupil at Mount Kelly is a journey of achievement, one
that is literally and symbolically taken up each year by every
member of our community on the Cox Tor Walk. It is appropriate
that this journey is set on the Moor: Mount Kelly is embedded
in Dartmoor; we would not be what we are without our
surroundings – the spirit and ethos of our School is inextricably
linked to our location, not just in terms of what it allows us to
do, but in shaping our attitudes, values and appreciation of the
hidden challenges that lie in apparent tranquillity.
The dual nature of our surroundings – the beautiful and the
challenging – reflects the comfortable bedfellows of warmth,
good humour and gritty, combative determination that exist in
our pupils; the Devon bedrock that anchors a national ambition
and global outlook; the desire to conquer the summit through
understanding the unflinching endeavour required to do so.
