Michaelmas Term was about
exploring our new environment
in Nursery and making new
friends. We went outside to discover what
was within the grounds of Mount Kelly.
We learnt to print with our hands and with
a teddy bear. The term was finished off
with us performing in the Pre-Prep nativity
which was a wonderful experience for us
all as we were filmed.
During the Lent Term we had a visit from
the Gruffalo and went searching for him
around the school. We built our own
Gruffalo woods and tried to find evidence
of where he was hiding. However, we
didn’t find him! As well as searching for
the Gruffalo we discovered shapes in the
woods and learnt how many sides many
shapes had. We used our hands and
arms to create a picture of spring and had
a very exciting visit to our friend’s farm,
where we met a pig who could sit and
give you her paw for food. Her name was
‘Princess’.
The Summer Term was an exciting
event. Being the shortest term, we were
very busy. We completed books about
ourselves to let our new teachers know
the amazing things we can do. We had
a wonderful LOTC week making a ball
run, a water run, some Fairy and Nymph
houses, bug hotels and rafts to put in the
river. We completed an orienteering task,
following picture clues and finding items
as we went and created our own map as
we made our way to the Trout Farm for
a visit.
The second half of term was all about
fish, as we created our own fish tanks and
fish, visited the aquarium and met Marina
the Mermaid and visit the marine centre
at Wembury Beach where we explored
the rock pools and learnt how to keep
our seas a safe place for the animals and
plants that live there.
Reception started the year talking
about our families, finding out
about Autumn and enjoying
Traditional Tales. We had fun acting
out the stories and using language
from the books with different voices
and we performed the Little Red Hen
for Harvest. We also spent time on the
question “Do bees wear shoes?”. We
had a Fire Safety and a Road Safety
week and then had fun with Christmas
crafts and stories.
We all took part in our nativity play with
the rest of the Pre-Prep. This year it
was A Bundle of Joy and included a
very grumbly donkey! We managed
to get to the theatre to see a lovely
play called The Man Who Wanted to
be a Penguin. Father Christmas made
an appearance at our party and even
brought us some presents!
Our Lent Term was full of dinosaurs,
Lunar New year, Valentines, World
Book Day and Science week. We had
visits from baby Lilly and baby Darcie.
We visited the Post Office to buy a
stamp and post our Valentine cards.
Our eggs took a long time but we
were patient and they finally hatched!
We went to visit the farm and had a
wonderful day meeting many different
animals. We finished off the term with
Easter crafts and pictures and a special
visit from the Easter Bunny.
Our Learning Outside the Classroom
week was fun and we followed it up with
a trip to the National Marine Aquarium,
where we even met a mermaid! Sports
day was very hot but everyone did their
best and we even completed a 400m
round track race.
We went to Wembury Beach and did
some wonderful rock pooling finding
shore crabs, hermit crabs, starfish and
prawns and sea snails amongst other
things. We all had fun at our traditional
Teddy Bear’s Picnic for our last day of
term, rounding off a lovely year!
