Programme Summary<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Diploma in Arts <strong>and</strong> Cultural Enterprise<br />

Management is a trans-disciplinary programme, which equips<br />

graduates to take an entrepreneurial role in the development<br />

<strong>and</strong> management <strong>of</strong> the artistic <strong>and</strong> cultural resources <strong>of</strong> the<br />

region. <strong>The</strong> programme is open to graduates in the humanities,<br />

social sciences, or other related fields, as well as to managers <strong>of</strong><br />

arts <strong>and</strong> cultural enterprises in the public <strong>and</strong> private sectors.<br />

<strong>The</strong> course <strong>of</strong> study runs over a period <strong>of</strong> two intensive Mid-Year<br />

sessions (June–August) <strong>of</strong> four weeks each. Sessions I <strong>and</strong> II will<br />

be held from June–August <strong>of</strong> Year 1. During the academic year,<br />

students will be required to complete their practicum involving<br />

a study <strong>and</strong> a work attachment. In Session III (June – Year 2),<br />

students will complete coursework <strong>and</strong> present seminars for<br />

final evaluation.<br />

Method <strong>of</strong> Delivery<br />

<strong>The</strong> programme will be delivered via lectures, workshops,<br />

<strong>and</strong> practical field-work. Lectures will be held over three midyear<br />

sessions to enable participation from other Caribbean<br />

territories. Students will have the option <strong>of</strong> doing field-work<br />

within or outside <strong>of</strong> their home-territory.<br />

Aims<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Diploma in Arts <strong>and</strong> Cultural Enterprise<br />

Management is intended to:<br />

1. supply specialists trained in the development <strong>and</strong><br />

management <strong>of</strong> artistic <strong>and</strong> cultural resources;<br />

2. train artists in the management <strong>of</strong> their own talent;<br />

3. engage students in Caribbean cultural production <strong>and</strong><br />

alert them to the potential there<strong>of</strong>;<br />

4. develop regional <strong>and</strong> international contact with arts<br />

organisations, cultural agencies, <strong>and</strong> practitioners in the<br />

field;<br />

5. develop the entrepreneurial insight <strong>and</strong> skill to transform<br />

cultural resources into sources <strong>of</strong> economic benefit for all<br />

concerned.<br />

Objectives<br />

On conclusion <strong>of</strong> the programme the successful graduate<br />

should be able to:<br />

1. appreciate the potential <strong>of</strong> cultural industries;<br />

2. organise <strong>and</strong> produce artistic <strong>and</strong> cultural events;<br />

3. manage artistic talent;<br />

4. construct project proposals;<br />

5. manage an arts or cultural institution.
