MA History by Coursework<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
For the MA History, an applicant should have at least EIGHT B<br />
grades in semesterised courses or FOUR B grades in Second<br />
<strong>and</strong> Third year History courses (i.e., for those with the “old,” nonsemesterised<br />
UWI degrees), for entry to the MA by Coursework.<br />
New entrants for the MA History are accepted every second<br />
year.<br />
AIMS <strong>and</strong> OBJECTIVES<br />
This programme’s main objective is to <strong>of</strong>fer specialised training<br />
in the nature <strong>and</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> the discipline to teachers in the<br />
higher levels <strong>of</strong> the secondary schools, <strong>and</strong> to other interested<br />
persons. It is also an excellent preparation for those wishing to<br />
proceed to read for the MPhil <strong>and</strong> PhD degrees in History.<br />
It is <strong>of</strong>fered as a part-time programme spread over two years<br />
(i.e., calendar years).<br />
Students are required to read THREE tri-semester, 9-credit<br />
courses <strong>and</strong> to write a research paper <strong>of</strong> between 10,000 <strong>and</strong><br />
15,000 words. Teaching is conducted from September to June,<br />
with a 4-week break between semesters (December-January).<br />
