SUPPORT SERVICES AT THE<br />
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION<br />
<strong>The</strong> Library<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Education</strong> Resource Library was created in l973. It<br />
contains a comprehensive collection <strong>of</strong> materials in the<br />
field <strong>of</strong> education, with growing emphasis on Caribbean<br />
publications. <strong>The</strong> collection numbers approximately 15,000<br />
items consisting <strong>of</strong> books, monographs, reports, newspaper<br />
clippings files, theses <strong>and</strong> dissertations, government<br />
documents, microtexts, <strong>and</strong> subject bibliographies.<br />
Some <strong>of</strong> the services <strong>of</strong>fered are:<br />
(i) Bibliographic searches<br />
(ii) Photocopying<br />
(iii) Lists <strong>of</strong> new acquisitions<br />
(iv) User orientation<br />
(v) Routing <strong>of</strong> publishers’ catalogues to staff<br />
(vi) Book loans<br />
(vii) Assistance in using materials<br />
(viii) Facilities for group discussions<br />
<strong>The</strong> Library serves the staff <strong>and</strong> students <strong>of</strong> the School<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong>, staff <strong>and</strong> students <strong>of</strong> the wider university<br />
community, planners <strong>and</strong> researchers <strong>of</strong> the Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Education</strong>, <strong>and</strong> other persons whom the School may deem<br />
eligible.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Library also plays an integral part in the teaching <strong>and</strong><br />
research programmes undertaken by the School through<br />
the acquisition <strong>and</strong> dissemination <strong>of</strong> published material.<br />
As a student registered in this programme, you are entitled<br />
to borrow books from our Library. Copies <strong>of</strong> the required<br />
reading materials for all the courses are available in the<br />
Library. In addition you may access relevant periodicals<br />
related to your area <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
You have access to a bank <strong>of</strong> computers, <strong>and</strong> there is a Study<br />
Room for post graduate students.<br />
Library Hours<br />
<strong>The</strong> Library’s opening hours are:<br />
Monday-Thursday 8.30 a.m. – 9.00 p.m.<br />
Friday 8.30 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.<br />
Saturday 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.<br />
Sundays <strong>and</strong> Public Holidays CLOSED<br />
<strong>The</strong> use <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong> Library will be governed by<br />
the General Regulations for the use <strong>of</strong> the Main Library at St.<br />
Augustine, except where specifically stated below. A copy <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Main Library’s rules may be consulted in the Resource Library,<br />
School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong>. Readers are requested to familiarise<br />
themselves with both sets <strong>of</strong> rules.
