About <strong>the</strong> Author<br />
Susan Prior is interested in <strong>the</strong> experiences <strong>and</strong> perspectives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> individual learner who may be<br />
gifted, have special needs or be twice exceptional. Contracted to set up <strong>the</strong> Education Support<br />
Centre at Trinity College in East Perth in Western Australia in 2000, Sue subsequently joined a<br />
school service Pilgrimage through India <strong>and</strong> Nepal <strong>for</strong> 6 weeks in 2002/3. She volunteered alongside<br />
o<strong>the</strong>rs in several <strong>of</strong> Mo<strong>the</strong>r Teresa’s facilities, <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r service providers in some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> poorest<br />
areas across India, which led her to a new level <strong>of</strong> awareness <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> diversity in cultural<br />
conceptualisations <strong>of</strong> disability <strong>and</strong> giftedness. She was appointed <strong>the</strong> co-chair <strong>of</strong> a whole school<br />
gifted <strong>and</strong> talented review committee <strong>of</strong> a large International School in Bangkok in 2007. In 2011,<br />
she created “Prior Learning” which provides consultancy <strong>for</strong> inclusive, gifted <strong>and</strong> special needs<br />
support internationally <strong>and</strong> within Australia. Registered to teach in Western Australia <strong>and</strong><br />
Queensl<strong>and</strong>. Sue has a B.Ed. in special needs <strong>and</strong> M.Ed. (leadership <strong>and</strong> gifted education) <strong>and</strong> is<br />
currently a Ph.D. c<strong>and</strong>idate at Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Cross University.<br />
