<strong>The</strong> <strong>World</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Gifted</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Talented</strong> <strong>Children</strong><br />

online, is representative <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> general Dutch population. <strong>The</strong>re was, <strong>for</strong> instance, an<br />

overrepresentation <strong>of</strong> women in <strong>the</strong> comparative population sample. Because we examined <strong>the</strong><br />

results <strong>for</strong> men <strong>and</strong> women separately, this was, however, not necessarily a problem. <strong>The</strong> age<br />

distribution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> comparative sample was comparable to that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> general Dutch population, as<br />

was <strong>the</strong> distribution <strong>of</strong> educational level. Future studies will need to cross validate our findings by<br />

comparing <strong>the</strong> humor styles <strong>of</strong> gifted adults (whe<strong>the</strong>r or not Mensa members) with those found in <strong>the</strong><br />

general population. In addition, future studies may examine <strong>the</strong> possibility that <strong>the</strong> gifted use o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

humor styles than those that can be distinguished on basis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> instrument used in <strong>the</strong> present<br />

study. Finally, future research may follow-up on <strong>the</strong> present study’s findings on well-being, <strong>and</strong>, <strong>for</strong><br />

instance, examine how humor styles exactly affect <strong>the</strong> well-being <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gifted, or vice versa.<br />
