attached units. The supported units coordinate their requirements through logistical channels. The following<br />

personnel coordinate closely to provide SLCR operations:<br />

• Supported unit logistics officer.<br />

• COSCOM ACofS, Services.<br />

• DISCOM SPO Officer.<br />

• Supply officer of the MSB.<br />

NOTE: Detailed SLCR operational in<strong>for</strong>mation is provided to the supported unit in the administrativelogistics<br />

order.<br />

Battalion Operations Officer. The responsibility <strong>for</strong> SLCR services begins at the battalion<br />

level where operations are planned, organized, controlled, <strong>and</strong> directed. The battalion operations officer<br />

directs the following actions:<br />

• Determines the general area <strong>for</strong> the site selection.<br />

• Arranges with preventive medicine or water treatment specialists to test the water.<br />

• Arranges <strong>for</strong> the distribution of water to operational sites if adequate fresh water is not available.<br />

• Arranges <strong>for</strong> additional help as required <strong>for</strong> the setup of the site.<br />

• Arranges <strong>for</strong> site personnel to have their meals with supported units, if required.<br />

• Publishes the source of supplies to support operational requirements.<br />

• Sets up SOP/TSOP that provide <strong>for</strong> reports <strong>and</strong> records.<br />

• Sets up a battalion loading plan which incorporates the FSC’s transportation requirements.<br />

• Coordinates with area units <strong>for</strong> environmental considerations.<br />

• Coordinates with supported units to move <strong>and</strong> defend the operating sites.<br />

• Coordinates release times, communications, <strong>and</strong> possible succeeding missions <strong>for</strong> the unit.<br />

Company Comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> XO. The company comm<strong>and</strong>er delegates authority <strong>for</strong> mission<br />

operations to the his XO, platoon leaders, <strong>and</strong> section/team leaders. If the company is operating as a<br />

separate unit <strong>and</strong> not as an element of a battalion, then, the company comm<strong>and</strong>er may also have to per<strong>for</strong>m<br />

the duties of the battalion operations officer. The XO will help the CO in running the company’s<br />

administrative areas. See Chapter 2, Section I <strong>for</strong> the duties of company headquarters elements. The CO<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or XO direct the following actions:<br />

• Gives orders <strong>and</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation on scheduling changes to platoon or section leader.<br />

• Verifies that preventive medicine personnel or water treatment specialist personnel have checked the<br />

water supply.<br />
