intelligence to be used effectively, the information systems used for customer management, quality control<br />
and enterprise resource planning in services for the elderly need to be developed in a harmonised manner,<br />
interfaces need to be created between the systems, and data structures for preventing injuries need to be<br />
configured and standardised. Safety training needs to be incorporated into the training of all individuals<br />
involved in treating, rehabilitating and assisting elderly people. In the social welfare and health care sector,<br />
one of the challenges relating to safety management is to increase the skills of staff especially with regard<br />
to identifying risk factors for falls among the elderly. Suggestions of possibilities and actions to promote<br />
the adoption of technologies that increase safety as well as the most important conclusions of the IKATek<br />
project are discussed at the end of the publication.<br />
This publication is part of the Safety and Security Programme of Tekes and it was produced in collaboration<br />
with the National Institute for Health and Welfare and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.<br />
The objective of the publication is to present new perspectives for preventing injuries and especially falls<br />
among the elderly by means of technological solutions. The target audience comprises Finnish businesses,<br />
the public sector and research institutions.<br />
