High hopes<br />
To take in a commanding view of the<br />
country, make for Mount Agou in the<br />
southwest of Togo, close to the border<br />
with Ghana (and around a three-hour<br />
drive from the capital). Once named<br />
Mount Baumann, after the Austrian<br />
explorer Oscar Baumann, Agou is<br />
Togo’s highest mountain, at a height<br />
of 986 metres. Hire one of Togo’s<br />
many zémidjans (the infamous<br />
motorcycle taxis) to head up a 13km<br />
