MYTHOLOGY AND TIME TELLING OF ANCIENT SUNDIALS
Forlati's brief article gives us an impressive mythological legend which refers to the sundial's equation of time.
THE CHRONICLE OF FERMO'S SUNDIALS
In the last century chronicles Alberto Cintio found interesting evidence that the sundial was able to replace or even
to set the time on the clock tower.
THE DIAL OF ACAZ, A 1547 REFRACTION SUNDIAL OF GEORGE HARTMANN
Lino Colombo describes a particular sundial in the shape of a chalice that only works when the refraction of the
sunbeams' shadow is projected into the chalice by the gnomon. This watch, well known during the Renaissance,
was constructed by George Hartmann in 1547 and is problably one of the eldest of its type. It was found by a keen
antique dealer in a small market in the Northern part of Italy.
THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SUNDIAL FOR THE QUINZANELLO'S PRIMARY SCHOOL
dial by the pupils of the Quinzanello's (Brescia) primary school.
THE RESTORATION OF CLEMENTINE'S SUNDIAL AT ST.MARY OF ANGELS CHURCH (ROME)
One of the most important gnomonic projects of the period must be the adoption of the Clementine meridian line,
constructed by Bianchini in the 18th century at St.Mary of Angels church in Rome. A school in Rome was able to
obtain the monument with the proposal to undertake the restoration and conservation of Clementine's sundial
which is falling into decay.
THE SUNDIAL OF THE BASILICA OF ST.NICCOLO' ALL'ARENA IN CATANIA
Michele Trobia took care of the restoration of the sundial in the Basilica of St.Niccolo' all'Arena in Catania. This
sundial is one of the two dials (meridian line) constructed by the danish astronomer Peters. The whole restoration
is briefly described in this article, hoping to be able to give a further detailed account of it in future editions.
Nicola Severino summarizes the various editions of the Bibliography of Gnomonica. Started in 1992, with the
contribution of the great Charles k.Aked, today with almost 12.000 titles it has become the world's biggest
the scientific and moral tuition this great gnomonist has left us.
