Charles Kenneth Aked: in memoriam
Pag. 30
Nicola Severino
La sua dedizione allo studio degli orologi (di tutti i tipi) era totale: “I write about dialling to occupy my mind (and about
clocks and watches); if I could find something more interesting, I would try that too. But life is for living, and each of us finds
satisfaction in different ways. I cannot smoke, do not drink, my wife forbids lovemaking, - so what esle is left? So I spend much
time on dialling, wich my wife tells me is a complete waste of time. So is every human activity if you analyse it - what then are
we to do?....(...)...My wife does not think he è wasting his life, but I have achieved nothing and am wasting my life. Fortunately I
will not waste it for much longer as I have cancer which is now attacking my liver - che peccato!”.
tempo nella gnomonica, altrimenti avrei avuto problemi con mia moglie: “Do not spend all your time on dialling or you will have
trouble with your wife!”.
una lettera del 6 ottobre 1996: “Do not worry about me having cancer, if it was not that, it would be something else, I have lived
four years longer that the doctors have given me. I am sure that God has some purpose behind all these things although it
seems evil to us because of our ignorance. Nothing in this Universe is without purpose. Writing helps me to forget my illness, it
is important not to think of yourself only, that is the way to death. Besides which, I have been near to death on many occasions,
if it is not time for you to go, neither illness nor accidents will send you there before your time. A year ago I had an accidents in
my car, it was completely wrecked but I got out without a single scratch! I have had 25.000 volts through me and walked away
only shaken but unbowed. 10 years ago I fell from the top of my house, spent many weeks in bed but nothing broken!!! There
seems to be no room in Heaven for diallists, there may be too many there already!!.
