Grimaldi Group Naples 25th annual Euromed
conference was the occasion to present the
Group’s future plans and policies. Innovation
and respect for the environment will lead to improved
ability to compete and cost reduction
by substituting older vessels. Increasing the
number of lines improves the modular service
on land and on sea and generates economic,
social and environmental savings as well as
creating the opportunity to use latest generation
vessels. Even today the Grimaldi fleet is
one of the youngest in the world. 3,000 million
Euros have been invested in vessels in the last
few years and investment in new builds continues.
Despite the crisis Grimaldi Group Naples has maintained its turnover at the pre crisis level of 2,500 million Euros
per year. The Group’s liquidity enables it make less use of bank debt than most of its competitors and enables it to
continue investing in land facilities as well restructuring Finnlines a subsidiary.
EU TO ADOPT ITALY’S ECOBONUS
Italy’s experience with its Ecobonus, an incentive
scheme to encourage movement of trucks by sea
rather than road has led the EU to ask for tenders for
an Ecobonus feasibility study. The Italian Ecobonus
can reimburse as much as 30% of the ticket price
on certain sea routes known as “motorways of the
sea”. The intention is to encourage forms of association
of smaller road transporters to make use of the
sea and to help them finance hardware and software
destined to improve efficiency in the transport chain
in conditions of maximum safety.
The Ecobonus scheme was set up in 2006 and between
2007 and 2009 has paid out 170 million Euros
with a further 30 million Euros available for 2010.
In the three years from 2007 to 2009, 44 million tons of freight in 1,430,290 trips were transported by sea, that is
the equivalent of 500,000 TIR taken off the road contributing a social dividend of 411 million Euros

NAPLES IN 2012
The 63rd International Space exhibition to be held
in Naples in 2012 is expected to generate further industry
earnings on top of the current 510 million Euros
including orders for the 100 small and medium sized
businesses located in the Campania area and benefiting
the city. The presence of major world aerospace
companies offers an important opportunity for local
businesses. The convention will enable Italy’s research
in universities and research centres to be presented.
Much work is carried out in the Campania region including
the Irene space capsule which is 100% made
in Campania.
