dal Rinascimento si è trascinato<br />
fino agli odierni bar più vintage.<br />
Sostanzialmente, petali di rosa o altre<br />
infiorescenze, acqua e alcol etilico. Lo stesso<br />
sito di Federchimica associa l’etanolo (o alcol<br />
etilico) proprio al rosolio e al finocchietto,<br />
oltre alla funzione disinfettante. La vulgata<br />
popolare, invece, per l’assonanza e la stretta<br />
parentela chimica, allo scandalo del vino<br />
adulterato col metanolo. Eppure l’etanolo si<br />
candida a prolungare l’aspettativa di vita del<br />
motore a combustione interna. John Deere<br />
Power Systems ha investito nell’ottobre del<br />
2022 in ClearFlame Engine Technologies,<br />
dell’Illinois, specializzata in combustibili<br />
rinnovabili. L’etanolo fa parte del paniere<br />
di ClearFlame. Ed è così che, ad appena<br />
un anno di distanza, all’Agritechnica 2023,<br />
Deere ha sfoderato l’asso dalla manica: il 9<br />
litri a etanolo. Intendiamoci, è un approccio<br />
prototipale, non abbiamo idea se possa<br />
rivelarsi un precursore. Certamente, ha il<br />
merito di avere scalzato dal piatto il disco<br />
rotto dell’Hvo. Affidandoci alle dichiarazioni<br />
ufficiali, è un carburante fortemente<br />
apprezzato dal costruttore americano perché<br />
è a base di alcol, facilmente reperibile su<br />
scala planetaria. Si sa, la filiera di fornitura e<br />
l’infrastruttura di riferimento rappresentano<br />
le scommesse da vincere, per qualsiasi<br />
soluzione alternativa ai derivati dal petrolio.<br />
L’etanolo può essere ricavato dai tipici<br />
insilati e da altri sottoprodotti o materie<br />
prime dell’alimentazione dei bovini come<br />
mais, grano o canna da zucchero. Ancora,<br />
da barbabietole e altre biomasse residuali<br />
(non destinate cioè al fabbisogno alimentare<br />
umano). In quanto carburante a elevato<br />
numero di ottani, è una soluzione interessante<br />
per i motori a combustione interna ad alte<br />
prestazioni. Nell’allestimento originario,<br />
il 6090 di John Deere è un esacilindrico da<br />
9 litri (AxC 118x135 mm), equipaggiato<br />
con una doppia turbina, la prima a bassa<br />
pressione, la seconda ad alta, che comprime<br />
ulteriormente l’aria. Il ricircolo è previsto<br />
anche nella formulazione Stage V. Restano<br />
aperte le questioni relative alla tenuta a<br />
basse temperature e agli effetti corrosivi<br />
sui componenti plastici e sui sistemi di<br />
filtrazione. Nota bene: l’editoriale del numero<br />
di luglio 2022 di <strong>Powertrain</strong> International si<br />
intitolava “parlando di etanolo”. È associato<br />
alla foto della Fiat 147 per il mercato<br />
brasiliano. Nel 1979, la “Cachacinha”<br />
digeriva proprio l’alcol etilico.<br />
