Abstract
Till now a general protocol for the treatment of narcissistic personality disorders does not exist.
A few psychiatric hospitals have started to use the schema-focussed therapy of Jeffrey Young. Early
maladaptive schemas are at the core of this treatment of personality disorders . An early maladaptive
schema is defined as an extremely stable, persistent theme that was developed during childhood,
was extended throughout one's lifetime but is dysfunctional to a significant degree.
In the thesis "ben Ik in beeld?" it will be examined which role music therapy can play in the schemafocussed
therapy. To answer this question the features of the narcissistic personality disorder and
the characteristics of the schema-focussed therapy will be reviewed in the light of music therapy.
This leads automatically to a schema-focussed approach music therapy of the narcissistic
personality disorder.
Samenvatting
Tot op heden ontbreekt een protocol voor de behandeling van de narcistische
persoonlijkheidsstoornis. Momenteel wordt er op een aantal psychiatrische afdelingen volgens de
schemagerichte therapie van Jeffrey Young gewerkt. De vroege onaangepaste schema's staan
centraal in de schemagerichte therapie. Deze schema's zijn volgens Young de kern van een
persoonlijkheidsstoornis. Vroege onaangepaste schema's zijn extreem stabiele en lang bestaande
thema's die zich ontwikkelen tijdens de kindertijd, die uitgebreid worden tijdens het hele leven van
het individu en die in belangrijke mate disfunctioneel zijn. Deze schema's dienen als mallen voor de
verwerking van latere ervaringen. In de scriptie "ben Ik in beeld?" wordt onderzocht welke rol
muziektherapie binnen de schemagerichte therapie kan hebben. Om tot een antwoord te komen
worden de kenmerken van de narcistische persoonlijkheidsstoornis en de karakteristiek van de
schemagerichte therapie in het licht bezien van muziektherapie.
Deze informatie levert een schemagerichte, muziektherapeutische behandeling voor de narcistische
persoonlijkheidsstoornis op.
