16 Halfdan Hansen was one of the giants of KNS. He was a pioneer in writing about sailing, reporting from races and the Olympics as well as publishing books for young people and the general public.With TAMARA 8 he won the 8 mR class at Sandhamn (5th Europe Week) in 1930.After the war he took part in Ocean Racing. BERLIN OLYMPICS 1936 Hitler’s nazi regime wanted to impress the youth of the world when staging these olympics. Germany sent an invitation to the Norwegian Olympic Committee to send 30 boys aged 16 – 18 as guests of the 3rd Reich. KNS was asked to put forward two teenagers, and Finn Chr. Ferner and Børre Falkum- Hansen were selected. These valuable photos document some impressions of a Norwegian teenager. We see he could not avoid taking snapshots of military parades. The teenagers stayed in Berlin, but the sailing competitors were brought up from Kiel to witness the opening ceremony. For the sailing events in Kiel, a special breakwater was built to house the competing yachts outside the German Yacht Club in Kiel (formerly the imperial). The national flags of the medal winners were hoisted and the national anthem of the winning country was played for the first time. 17
