Summary of achievements and perspectives<br />

The Institute NanoBioSimes is developing timely and multi/interdisciplinary<br />

research in nanobiotechnology field. Researchers from different areas such<br />

as biochemistry, chemistry, and physicists are joining efforts for preparing,<br />

characterizing, and modeling nanomaterials and biomolecules, and how their<br />

properties can be engineered and modified when these nanomaterials interact<br />

with aminoacids, proteins, DNA, carbohydrates, among others. Progress<br />

has been made on extracting, purifying, and crystallizing novel proteins with<br />

potential properties for applications as biomarkers and therapy against cancer.<br />

Novel properties and nanostructures based on functionalized fullerenes and<br />

carbon nanotubes have been elucidated through modeling and experiments.<br />
