“A Sarah é uma enfermeira numa maternidade pública. O hospital
está num tumulto com mulheres grávidas em diferentes etapas da
gestação. Tem pouco pessoal e por isso Sarah é obrigada a fazer um
turno duplo. Observando as mulheres que entram e saem da sua
enfermaria, ela nota bem quem vai dar à luz pela primeira vez
e quem é veterana. As enfermarias estão esgotadas. Duas mulheres
e os seus bébés partilham uma cama pequena, enquanto as que
já estão em trabalho de parto ficam nos corredores. Sarah aceita
tudo naturalmente já que o seu coração e mente estão nos seus

“Sarah is a nurse at a public Maternity Hospital. The hospital is in a
frenzy, with pregnant women in different stages of labour. It is short on
staff, so Sarah is forced to put a double shift. Observing the women
coming and going in her ward, she notices who is a first timer or a
veteran. Meanwhile, the wards are overcrowded. Two women and their
babies share single beds while those in labour are spilling unto the
hallways. Sarah takes all this in stride, her heart and mind more on her
own personal pains.” - F.L.

Esta é a primeira longa-metragem de Eduardo Roy que faleceu
recentemente. Foi a vencedora do Deauville Asian Film Festival,
venceu ainda o Prémio de Novo Realizador no Las Palmas Film
Festival e teve uma Menção Honrosa no Vancouver International
film Festival. A actriz principal venceu o prémio de interpretação
no Diana Zubiri, Young Critics Circle em 2012. Eduardo Roy Jr foi
o realizador de “Lola Igna” (2019) e “Pamylia Ordinario” (2016),
ambos exibidos no Fantasporto.
This is the first feature by Eduardo Roy who died recently. This film was
the winner at the Deauville Asian Film Festival, the winner of the First
Time Director Award at the Las Palmas Film Festival, the winner of a
special mention at the Vancouver International film Festival. The main
actress, Diana Zubiri, was also awarded qt the Young Critics Circle in
2012. Eduardo Roy Jr was also the director of “Lola Igna” (2019) and
“Pamylia Ordinario” (2016), both screened in Fantasporto.
“Bwakaw é uma comédia dramática acerca do envelhecer e o medo
que todos temos de envelhecer sozinhos. Rene é um homem gay
que se assumiu publicamente quando tinha já 70 anos. Doente nos
seus últimos anos, pensa que já é tarde para o amor e que tudo
o que tem à frente é apenas a morte. Esta é a minha primeira
colaboração com o realizador Jun Robles Lana. Foi a sua primeira
incursão no cinema independente. Lana começou a sua carreira
a fazer cinema comercial e foi director criativo na televisão. Este
filme tem como actor principal o lendário e já falecido actor Eddie
Garcia que venceu como Melhor Actor no the Asian Film Festival
e nos Asian Film Awards pela sua interpretação neste filme.” - F.L.
“Bwakaw is a drama-comedy about growing old, and everyone’s fear of
growing old alone. Rene is a gay man who came out of the closet at
age 70. Ailing in his twilight years, he thinks it is now too late for love,
even companionship, and that all there is to look forward to his Death.
This was my first collaboration with director Jun Robles Lana. This was
his first venture in independent filmmaking. Lana started his career
directing commercial films and was a creative director on TV. The film
stars the late legendary Filipino actor Eddie Garcia who won as Best
Actor at the Asian Film Festival and Asian Film Awards for his

JUN ROBLES LANA
Jun Robles Lana nasceu a 10 de Outubro 1972, na cidade de Makati
nas Filipinas. Formou-se na University of Santo Tomas com uma
licenciatura em Arte da Comunicação. A sua primeira peça foi
“Sa Pusod Ng Dagat (In the Navel of The Sea)” realizada pelo seu
mentor Marilou Diaz-Abaya e que estreou no Festival de Berlim
em 1998. Lana venceu o Prémio de Melhor Realizador nos festivais
de Tallinn, Nova Delhi, Madrid e Vladivostok.
Jun Robles Lana was born on October 10, 1972 in Makati City,
Philippines. He is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with
a degree in Communication Arts. His debut screenplay “Sa Pusod Ng
Dagat (In the Navel of The Sea)” directed by his mentor Marilou Diaz-
Abaya premiered at the 1998 Berlin International Film Festival.
Lana won Best Director awards from Tallinn, New Delhi, Madrid and
Vladivostok international film festivals.
