“Randy é um pai solteiro que trabalha numa fábrica de capacetes
e que acidentalmente mata, ao errar na medicação, a sua filha de
oito anos. Perturbado por um misto de culpa e remorso pela morte
prematura da filha, tem dificuldade em se separar do corpo e
deixá-la ser enterrada, esquecendo assim a sua culpa. Este filme
baseia-se num artigo que eu li num jornal em 2007. É acerca dos
construtores de caixões na cidade de Santo Thomas na minha
província natal, Pampanga. Tornou conhecidos e aclamados os
nomes dos meus conterrâneos, o realizador Jason Paul Laxamana
e o actor Allen Dizon. Agradeço ainda ao meu produtor Dennis
Evangelista por ter feito este filme.” - F.L.
“Randy is a single father who works in a casket factory accidentally kills
his eight-year-old daughter Angeline through wrong medication. As he
is haunted by a mixture of guilt and remorse over his daughter’s untimely
death, he finds it challenging not only to have his daughter’s body
discharged and buried but also to erase his culpability. This film was
inspired by a news article I read in one of the newspapers in 2007. It was
about the coffin makers of Santo Tomas town in my home province,
Pampanga. This film gave acclaim to my townmates director Jason Paul
Laxamana and actor Allen Dizon. I am thankful to my producer Dennis

JASON PAUL LAXAMANA
Jason Paul Laxamana formou-se em Comunicação de Rádio na
University of the Philippines Diliman. Durante uma década ele fez
cinema independente e comercial. Como cineasta independente,
escreveu e realizou vários filmes premiados na sua língua natal tal
como este cinema. “Magkakabaung” (The Coffin Maker)
e “Mercury Is Mine”. Como importante realizador, criou êxitos de
bilheteira como “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” (100 Poems for Stella),
“The Third Party” e “Just A Stranger”. “Magkakabaung” venceu
o prémio de Melhor Actor e prémios Netpac no Festival de Cinema
de Hanoi.
Jason Paul Laxamana is a graduate of BA Broadcast Communication
from the University of the Philippines Diliman. In a span of a decade, he
has made his mark in both independent and commercial cinema. As an
independent filmmaker, he has written and directed several awardwinning
films in his native language such as “Magkakabaung” (The
Coffin Maker” and “Mercury Is Mine.” As a mainstream filmmaker,
he has created box office hits such as “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” (100
Poems for Stella), “The Third Party,” and “Just A Stranger.”
“Magkakabaung” won the Best Actor and Netpac awards at the Hanoi
International Film Festival.
“Vinte e cinco anos depois da erupção do Monte Pinatubo ter
devastado a sua província e ter apagado quase totalmente a sua
herança cultural, os jovens Kapampangans não sabem ou nem querem
falar a sua própria língua. Um rapaz, Jaypee, aventura-se pela
paisagem coberta de cinzas e conhece Conrado Guinto, o guardião
da sua língua, em processo de desaparecimento. É o reconhecido
rei dos poetas Kapampangan. Conrado acha que Jaypee foi uma
oportunidade enviada pelos céus para passar a sua herança para a
nova geração, enquanto Jaypee pensa que tem toda a sorte do
mundo por ter encontrado a melhor pessoa para o ajudar no seu
afecto por uma rapariga da escola. Ambos ficarão desapontados ao
ver as suas vidas desenrolar em frente dos seus olhos. Esta é a segunda
longa-metragem que eu produzi para a minha alma mater,
a Holy Angel University. Lançou a carreira do realizador Carlo
Enciso Catu que ainda era um estudante universitário quando
rodou este filme, e também a do jovem actor Ronwaldo Martin.
Este também foi o primeiro argumento escrito pelo meu mentor na

“Twenty-five years after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo devastated
their province and nearly wiped out their cultural heritage, young
Kapampangans find themselves unable and unwilling to speak their own
language. One boy, Jaypee, ventures into the ash-covered countryside
where he encounters the guardian of their vanishing language, Conrado
Guinto, the crowned king of Kapampangan poets. Conrado considers
Jaypee as a heaven-sent opportunity to pass on his legacy to the next
generation, while Jaypee thinks he has hit the jackpot in finding the best
person to help him win the affection of a girl in school. Both of them are
in for a disappointment as their lives begin to unravel before each other’s
eyes. This was the second film I produced for my alma mater, Holy
Angel University. It launched the career of director Carlo Enciso Catu
who was a university student when we shot this film, and young actor
Ronwaldo Martin. This was the first script written by my mentor during
my university days Robby Tantingco.” - F.L.
CARLO ENCISO CATU
Carlo Enciso Catu nasceu em 26 de Setembro 1993. Ainda durante
a universidade realizou o seu primeiro filme, Ari: My Life with A King
em 2015. O seu filme de 2018, Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon
(Waiting For Sunset), venceu o prémio Especial do Júri da
Semana dos Realizadores no Fantasporto , e foi Prémio do Público
no Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas em França.
Carlo Enciso Catu was born on September 26th 1993. While in university
he directed his debut feature, Ari: My Life with A King in 2015. His
2018 film, Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon (Waiting For Sunset),
bagged the Special Jury Prize Award at the Fantasporto International
Film Festival, “Directors Week” section in Portugal; and the
Audience Choice Award at the Vesoul International Film Festival
of Asian Cinemas in France.
