São Carlos has an international title
for planting trees
The São Carlos Town Hall, with the aid of the
Municipal Secretary for the Environment and
Sustainable Development, received a certificate from
the “Tree Cities of the World” Program for the 4th
time in a row, a program which is promoted by the
UN organization Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO). The 2022 international ceremony recognized
the efforts of 168 cities scattered around the world –
20 of which are located in Brazil – which, according
to the FAO/UN analysis, hold good urban afforestation
practices.
Amazon apes are protected in São
Carlos
The São Carlos Ecologic Park has a squad of Brazilian
apes with 16 species, five of which are endangered. This
year, their unit inaugurated four new Amazon Biome
enclosures for eight large specimens: Macaco Barrigudo,
Macaco Aranha de Testa Branca, Macaco Aranha de
Cara Preta and Macaco Aranha de Barriga Amarela.
Each enclosure has its own individual atmosphere with
external and internal shelters equipped with heating,
if need be. The public is allowed close but safe contact,
with barriers that respect international standards.
