<strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong> has an intimate relationship with<br />

nature, harboring ecological parks that help protect the<br />

Environment and enlighten its citizens and visitors.<br />

There are several trails, tours and activities which<br />

contribute towards maintaining a balance between<br />

economic and sustainable development.<br />

Check out some attractions:<br />

<strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong> Ecological Park - with 72 acres and<br />

over 500 animals of different species, some of which<br />

are endangered. It is one of the only zoos in Brazil<br />

specialized in wildlife handling.<br />

Santa Maria do Monjolinho Farm - Declared<br />

Historical, Cultural and Educational Patrimony by<br />

Condephaat, it is an over 150 years-old architectural<br />

complex with cultural and historical landmarks. It<br />

offers guided tours through its museum, trails which<br />

interact with Mata Atlântica and Cerrado and an<br />

extensive Australian eucalyptus plantation from 1904<br />

– one of the oldest in the country.<br />

Traditional Festivals entice visitors and<br />

For over 50 years, <strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong>’ Town Hall has hosted<br />

the Climate Festival, with shows and diversified cultural<br />

activities for a public of all ages. The activities are free of<br />

charge and are presented by renowned local or national<br />

artists, such as Renato Teixeira and Ira, which were in<br />

the <strong>2023</strong> edition.<br />

The Corn Festival is also among the most traditional<br />

events in <strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong> & region. The event boosters the<br />

local economy and guarantees leisure and entertainment<br />

for inhabitants and visitors with several corn-based<br />

products, such as cakes, sweetcakes, curau, polenta,<br />

cuscuz, corn bread, hominy, popcorn, and typical fair<br />

foods such as snacks, kebabs, sweets, and breads. The<br />

craftsmanship is yet another of its highlights.<br />

U<strong>SP</strong> Astronomical Observatory - Dietrich Schiel -<br />

Inaugurated in 1986 – the same year Halley’s Comet<br />

flew by – it is responsible for an expansion in Biology,<br />

Computer Science, Physics, Math and Chemistry<br />

activities. It has a professional grade small-scale<br />

astronomical observatory destined to general public<br />

astronomical dissemination and provides technical and<br />

scientific astronomical counseling to whoever requests it.<br />

<strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong> Professor Mário Tolentino Science<br />

Museum - Is a space dedicated to education and scientific<br />

knowledge taught playfully, where students and visitors<br />

can interact with props, learning practical theory and<br />

looking at science, technology and art through a fun<br />

perspective.<br />

Dr. Christiano Altenfelder Silva Square (XV Square)<br />

- Located in the central region, it is but a small park,<br />

with around 10 thousand m2. It is a traditional<br />
