São Carlos has an intimate relationship with
nature, harboring ecological parks that help protect the
Environment and enlighten its citizens and visitors.
There are several trails, tours and activities which
contribute towards maintaining a balance between
economic and sustainable development.
Check out some attractions:
São Carlos Ecological Park - with 72 acres and
over 500 animals of different species, some of which
are endangered. It is one of the only zoos in Brazil
specialized in wildlife handling.
Santa Maria do Monjolinho Farm - Declared
Historical, Cultural and Educational Patrimony by
Condephaat, it is an over 150 years-old architectural
complex with cultural and historical landmarks. It
offers guided tours through its museum, trails which
interact with Mata Atlântica and Cerrado and an
extensive Australian eucalyptus plantation from 1904
– one of the oldest in the country.

Traditional Festivals entice visitors and
enliven the region
For over 50 years, São Carlos’ Town Hall has hosted
the Climate Festival, with shows and diversified cultural
activities for a public of all ages. The activities are free of
charge and are presented by renowned local or national
artists, such as Renato Teixeira and Ira, which were in
the 2023 edition.
The Corn Festival is also among the most traditional
events in São Carlos & region. The event boosters the
local economy and guarantees leisure and entertainment
for inhabitants and visitors with several corn-based
products, such as cakes, sweetcakes, curau, polenta,
cuscuz, corn bread, hominy, popcorn, and typical fair
foods such as snacks, kebabs, sweets, and breads. The
craftsmanship is yet another of its highlights.
USP Astronomical Observatory - Dietrich Schiel -
Inaugurated in 1986 – the same year Halley’s Comet
flew by – it is responsible for an expansion in Biology,
Computer Science, Physics, Math and Chemistry
activities. It has a professional grade small-scale
astronomical observatory destined to general public
astronomical dissemination and provides technical and
scientific astronomical counseling to whoever requests it.

Museum - Is a space dedicated to education and scientific
knowledge taught playfully, where students and visitors
can interact with props, learning practical theory and
looking at science, technology and art through a fun
perspective.
Dr. Christiano Altenfelder Silva Square (XV Square)
- Located in the central region, it is but a small park,
with around 10 thousand m2. It is a traditional
