Airton Garcia Ferreira, 73, was born in <strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong>, where his family owned a pan factory, a<br />
product which he himself sold as a traveling salesman during his teen years. He is the oldest of 11<br />
brothers and had to take over the family business and provide at the age of 25, due to his Father’s<br />
precocious death. With an inclination towards businesses, he became a successful businessman working<br />
across several business areas.<br />
He has always taken part in <strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong>’ political life, directly or indirectly choosing local mayors<br />
throughout his political and electoral work. He was a Vice-Mayor from 1996 to 2000 and in the<br />
2014 election he ran for state representative with a total of 42,329 votes and his party’s 1st on<br />
their candidate waiting list. On November 25th 2015, he stepped in as state representative as a<br />
replacement for Abelardo Camarinha, who had to be put on medical leave.<br />
Airton Garcia (PSB) ran for Mayor in <strong>São</strong> <strong>Carlos</strong>’ 2016 election and won. He was re-elected<br />
for the 2021-20<strong>24</strong> term and is currently coordinator of several modernization, infrastructure and<br />
developmental initiatives and projects within the city.<br />
