POPULATION CHARACTERISTICS OF ETİMESGUT
ABSTRACT
Etimesgut was awarded the district status by Law No. 3644, which was published in the
Official Gazette on 20 May 1990 and numbered 20523. It was established as a 50-house village
by the order of Atatürk in 1924-1925 for Turks from Western Thrace. When we look at 2000
census data, it is seen that the total population of the district is 171.293. According to the 2017
Address Based Population Registration System (ABPRS), the total population is 566,500. In this
study, the population characteristics of the Etimesgut district in 2017 ABPRS data have been
examined. Research data has been obtained from public web pages of Turkish Statistical
Institute (TSI). The obtained data are interpreted by converting them into tables and graphics.
When analyzed, 50,18% of the total population living in the district is male and 49,82% is
female. When the distribution of the district population by age groups is examined, it is seen
that the male population is more in the 0-4 age group whereas the female population in the
over 65 age group is considerably higher than the male population. While the number of male
population over 65 is 12,884, the female population in the same age group is 16,029. The
birthplace of about half of the county population is Ankara. The population of Ankara-born is
followed by those born in Yozgat, Çorum and Kırıkkale respectively. When the education level
of the population is examined, 98.16% of the population over the age of 6 is illiterate.
Currently, 6161 people are illiterate. According to the results of the survey, it is seen that the
district of Etimesgut has a rapid population increase. It has been determined that the
proportion of female population in the elderly population and male population in the young
population is higher in the region. According to these results, it is suggested to increase the
number of social areas for elderly population within the scope of municipal services and to
establish work places for the dynamic population.
