Manufacturers of carpet for residential use, are their
own worst enemies. Carpet is a highly desired floor
covering but it has been many years since the consumer
has made it their first choice.
What is the difference between the design of a carpet
and designs of other products?
There should be none. Unfortunately, today the designs
of carpet are not aligned with current or future
design trends for interiors. In general, manufacturers
of carpet for residential use are a long way behind the
trends; their sales will show them this. Other interior
products are fashionable, appealing, in contemporary
patterns, materials and colors. This was demonstrated
at the GAIB design competition in October; the
designers created stunning and very commercial designs,
they were much better than the manufacturers
own designs. But, to make the samples for display,
each of the designs was in some way spoilt because
the manufacturers used the wrong colors & different
surface effects.
Many designers work according to customer demand.
In what conditions demand oriented production
affect your freedom?
When the industry works with the correct professionals
there is no difference between what a customer
demands and what the interior designer wants to
provide. Trend Forecasters inform the designers and
manufacturers what customer demands in 1, 2 or 3
years’ time will be. The manufacturers have time to
make product that will meet this desire. The interior
designers then have lots of freedom to use their creative
skills, they have fashionable colors, patterns and
materials to work with and choose from.
Which sectors do you usually serve?

(in general this sector remains ignorant of what customers
