Monitoring based assessment of offshore
wind energy converters
Megawatt class wind energy converters in the offshore
environment represent a great technical challenge
regarding the design, construction and operation.
Inspection, maintenance and repair actions
contribute largely to operation costs. Therefore
monitoring and maintenance planning is essential
for cost efficiency in order to keep wind energy production
competitive.
This project is aiming at the development of the
scientific basis for the monitoring and assessment
system for sophisticated inspection, maintenance and
repair planning. The methodical basis is the structural
reliability theory, the method of stochastic finite
elements and the modelling of measurement uncertainties
for the utilisation of monitoring data.
The focus is the online assessment of the support
structure components based on the measurement
based reliability and the utilisation of the online
assessment for the optimisation of the life cycle costs.
