kultur.arlberg is the wish to communicate the history<br />
of skiing and winter tourism on the Arlberg to a broad<br />
public. And with the new book “Spuren – Skikultur<br />
am Arlberg” (“Tracks – the Arlberg and the culture of<br />
skiing”) they succeeded in doing just that.<br />

Past and future, tradition and progress – on the Arlberg these things<br />
have always been connected in a special way. Over time extraordinary<br />
pioneering achievements by “crazy” individuals combined with ideal<br />
framework conditions have made the “cradle of alpine skiing” into a<br />
myth that is very much alive indeed. The idea of tracing the beginnings of<br />
the passion for skiing, its development and effect on the Arlberg’s villages<br />
was eventually put into practise through the founding of the association<br />
ski.kultur.arlberg in Zürs. The research project “Auf den Spuren eines<br />
Wunders in Weiß” (“Tracing a white wonder”) aims at analysing history<br />
from a culture- and social-science perspective and it makes its findings<br />
visible through publications, TV-documentations and films as well as in<br />
the Arlberg-Ski-Museum.
