The BFI | Events and Meetings
Bei den Jahrestagungen Stahl 2011 und 2012,
am Aachener Stahl-Kolloquium, sowie an der ICRF
(International Conference of Casting and Forging)
war das BFI mit einem Stand vertreten.
Außerdem konnten im Berichtszeitraum
Dr. Edwin Basson (Genenaldirektor von Worldsteel)
und Bildungsministerin Prof. Dr. Anette Schavan
im BFI begrüßt werden. Herr Dr. Basson fasste
seinen positiven Eindruck wie folgt zusammen:
»Ich habe nicht nur viel über die Bandbreite der Aktivitäten
gelernt, sondern auch über konkrete Forschungsprojekte
in den verschiedenen Einrichtungen. Das ist
exzellente Arbeit, die hier geleistet wird. Ich denke,
dass die Stahlindustrie stolz darauf sein kann. Und
hoffentlich gelingt es uns die beispielhafte Arbeit weltweit
zu verbreiten, um die Effizienz und den Erfolg der
Stahlindustrie weiter zu steigern.
Am meisten beindruckt mich, dass hier nicht mit
riesigen Budgets an extravaganten Lösungen gearbeitet
wird. Hier geht es um anwendungsnahe wirtschaftliche
Lösungen, die den Unternehmen nützen.
In einigen Ländern habe ich ähnliche Einrichtungen
besucht. Darunter war jedoch keine mit so hoch entwickelter
und so klar definierter Forschung, wie ich sie hier
gesehen habe. Die Forschung hier ist weltweit die Beste.«
BFI was represented with its own stand at the
Stahl conventions in 2011 and 2012 as well as the
Aachen Steel Colloquium and the ICRF (International
Conference on Ingot Casting, Rolling and
Forging).
Furthermore, in the past two years BFI has had
the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Edwin Bas-son
(Director General of Worldsteel) and German
Education Minister Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan,
both of whom were impressed by what they saw.
Dr. Basson speaks about his positive impressions as:
»I not only learnt a lot about the overall scope of
activities here but also gained insights into the actual
research projects being handled by the various laboratories.
There is excellent work being done here and I
think the steel industry can be very proud of this. And
hopefully, we will be able to roll out this example to
other parts of the world in order to make our industry
more efficient and more successful.
What impressed me most was that these projects
are not big-budget productions aiming to produce
ultra-sophisticated solutions. Instead, the focus is on
practical solutions that can be found on a low budget
and which are beneficial to the industry.
I have visited similar institutes in other countries,
but none of them was as highly devel-oped or had
such clearly defined research policies as here. The
work being done here is simply the best in the world.«
