URBAN OTDOOR
»Wir wollten vor allem einen neuen, jungen
Kundenstamm hinzugewinnen.
an. Das beschäftigt natürlich auch die Branche. Viele Kollektionen
von Outdoormarken, die trotz Stilsicherheit, auch
Funktion bieten, funktionieren im Alltag genauso gut
wie über dem Anzug. So ist man auch in der Stadt
gegen alle Elemente gerüstet und trotzdem gut
angezogen.
„Urbane Outdoor Kultur“ testweise
eine eigene Plattform zu widmen?
Ende letzten Jahres haben wir auf
Grund des Umbaus unseres Stammhauses
am Marienplatz entschieden,
das Thema Urbane Outdoor Kultur
auf einer Sonderfläche zu bespielen.
Wir wollten vor allem einen neuen, jungen
Kundenstamm hinzugewinnen. Für
den „Urban Outsider“, wie wir diesen
Kunden gerne nennen, haben wir dann
im Frühjahr 2017 sieben Wochen eine
Testfläche im Erdgeschoss des Sporthaus
Schuster neu konzipiert.
How do you define Urban Outdoor? We combine the topic “Outdoor”
with an attitude towards life that includes more than high-tech
equipment. It’s about a lived culture which is among other things
very characteristic for Munich. We believe Munich is a specific when
it comes to mountain sports and the matching outdoor sports customers.
We define the topic through clothing which is functionally good
enough to cycle to work with but can be implemented for the little adventures
in the mountains, too. Following the motto:” We accompany
you to the tip of the Alps but to the Gärtnerplatz, too.”
And why do you believe the topic is so important in the
branch? Because the topic matches the contemporary spirit of the
time and lifestyle best. Outdoor brands which set new standards in
terms of function and design appeal to a new young urban target
group. Of course that also occupies the branch. Many collections
by outdoor brands which also offer function
despite stylistic confidence work just as well in
everyday life as they do over the suit. That
way one is also armed for all elements
in town, too, and nevertheless well
dressed.
How did the idea of giving
the topic “Urban Outdoor
Culture” an own test platform
come to pass? At the end of
last year we decided to play
out the topic of Urban Outdoor
Culture in a special area due to
the conversion of our main office
at the Marienplatz. We especially
wanted to win over new, young
customers. We then conceived a
test area on Sporthaus Schuster’s
ground floor for seven weeks in
2017 for the “Urban Outsider” as we
like to call those customers. Only to find
out which type of customer actually feels
addressed by the topic. Since we only had three
months of preparation time we concentrated on
house-own brands since they also offer enough great products
for those customers. We then finally implemented the concept
with brands we already had in our shop anyway and which reflect
the topic “Urban Outdoor Culture” best in our opinion. Those are,
among others: Peak Performance, Arcteryx, Patagonia, Maloja, Poler
Stuff, Pedaled and numerous accessory providers like Brooks. In April
2018 we will then have 1500 square metres more of a sales area after
the renovations. That’s where we are also going to establish room for
Urban Outdoor.
And how did you put the topic into practice in the shop at
Sport Schuster? We explicitly wanted to address two different types
of customers with the special area. That’s also how the platform was
designed. For one we see – when speaking about “Urban Outdoor Culture”
–the very clean, urban-inspired customers who prefers brands
like Peak Performance or Arcteryx. To him function paired with a
puristic design are in the main focus. He prefers black, white or grey,
is sharply dressed and cycles to the office. Matching that we have also
integrated a new Japanese bicycle label, Pedaled, into the area as well
as saddles by Brooks and matching Veloliteratur. As a contrast there
