home institutions. All the films were shot in FABW’s<br />

Studio 1 (now renamed as “Jochen Kuhn Studio”), under<br />

the strict eyes of specially trained hygiene officers.<br />

Despite the high level of control and the stressful situation,<br />

ICLA members handled the restrictions with great<br />

professionalism and discipline, yet watching them work<br />

made it very clear that a film set during the pandemic is<br />

a far cry from the joyful intimacy and enthusiasm one<br />

would expect from a student film production. Making<br />

it happen, though, was a major effort, both for the students<br />

and for FABW’s staff who worked numerous extra<br />

hours to make this happen. Even though none of the<br />

films explicitly dealt with the Corona Pandemic: in the<br />

years to come, these films will very likely be watched<br />

with a different eye, as comments on our time of isolation,<br />

great disruption and insecurity.<br />

ICLA 2.0: NETWORKING IS KEY<br />

While isolation, disruption and insecurity might be appropriate<br />

terms to describe last year’s general mood, we<br />

cannot allow these forces to dominate our minds, nor<br />

the way we work, nor the perspectives we are opening<br />

up to our students. Therefore, in the academic year<br />

of 20<strong>21</strong>/20<strong>22</strong>, we are making a number of significant<br />

changes to the concept and timeline of ICLA, moving<br />

from the fall to the spring term, in order to allow the<br />

students to participate in the vivid campus life in summer,<br />

instead of the sometimes unsociable German winter.<br />

Also, the objective of the class is shifting, from the production<br />

of short films as in previous editions, towards<br />

collaborative international project development within<br />

a larger scope. ICLA 2.0’s multicultural environment is<br />
