Die Institution besteht seit 1985 und lief bis Ende 1997 unter diversen anderen
Namen.Auftraggeber ist einerseits das «Centre de coordination ouest pour
l’étude et la protection des chauves souris» (CCO) in Genf, andererseits das Naturschutzinspektorat
des Kantons Bern (NSI).Seit Juni 1997 besteht zwischen
dem BIF und dem NMBE eine Vereinbarung betreffend die Lagerung und wissenschaftliche
Nutzung von Totfunden.Das Material besteht aus ca.720 Mumien
von Fledermäusen, die teilweise trocken, teilweise in Alkohol aufbewahrt werden;
die häufigsten Arten sind Grosses Mausohr und Zwergfledermaus (185 bzw.
138 Ex.).
This institution has existed since 1985,upto1997 under different names and is supported
by the CCO in Geneva (Centre de coordination ouest pour l’étude et la protection des chauves-souris)
and the Nature Conservation Office of the Canton of Bern.Since June 1997, storage
of dead bats by the NMBE and their use for scientific studies is regulated by an agreement
with the BIF.
Total = 720 Mammalia, Chiroptera: 375 dry mummies, 345 mummies in ethanol.Most numerous
are Myotis myotis (26 %) and Pipistrellus pipistrellus (21 %).There are also approximately
330 fecal samples from 37 sites in the collection.PS

Ing.agr.ETH, Hauptlehrer für Biologie, Chemie, Milchwirtschaft und Baukunde an
der landwirtschaftlichen Schule Waldhof-Langenthal.Begeisterter Ornithologe,
1941–66 Präsident des PARUS (Schweiz.Verband für Vogelschutz, Vogelkunde
und Vogelliebhaberei). 1973 überliess er dem NMBE seine über Jahre angelegte
Sammlung von Vogel- und Säugetierschädeln.
Agronomist, teacher at the school of agriculture in Waldhof near Langenthal BE.Enthusiastic
field ornithologist.Donated his mammalian and avian skull collection to the NMBE in
1973.
Total = 76: skulls of 7 Mammalia and 69 Aves from Switzerland.
