Cheese maker, field ornithologist and skilled taxidermist.Completed a collection of
mounted birds initiated by his grandfather and continued by his father.His widow sold the
collection to the NMBE in 1980.
Total = 346 Aves (207 species, all mounts) from the Swiss Plateau, collected 1871–1960.

Pilleri Giorgio (*1925)
Medizinstudium in Padua, Wien und Bern.Zuerst Assistent, von 1965 bis 1990 Direktor
des Hirnanatomischen Instituts der Universität Bern, Professor für Neuroanatomie
und vergleichende Neuropathologie.Seit 1956 zahlreiche wissenschaftliche
Expeditionen in alle Welt zur Erforschung der Walartigen, u.a. 1963
mit W.Huber* nach Südafrika (Durban).Das umfangreiche Cetaceen-Material
wurde dem NMBE geschenkt, im April 2000 aber an die Dr.Senckenbergische
Anatomie der Universität Frankfurt/Main (D) weitergegeben.
Studies of medicine in Padova, Vienna and Bern.Professor of neuroanatomy and comparative
neuropathology; from 1968 to 1990 director of the Institute of Brain Anatomy, University
of Bern.Studies in anatomy of cetaceans.Engaged in several scientific expeditions
pertaining to cetacean research since 1956, e.g. 1963 with W.Huber to Durban in South
Africa.The comprehensive cetacean material was taken care of by the NMBE and transferred
to the Institute of Anatomy at the University of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) in April 2000.
Total = 108 spirit specimens: 92 Mammalia (65 mammalian fetuses; 12 Castor canadensis
from the USA and some captive-bred at the Institute of Brain Anatomy), 7 Reptilia, 5 Amphibia,
4 Osteichthyes.

Platel Edmund (1846–1895)
Diplomierter Chemiker (ETH), war ab 1880 bis zu seinem Tod Direktor der Eidg.
Münzstätte.«Frau Münzdirektor Platel schenkte dem Museum die von Hrn.Münzdirektor
Platel hinterlassene Sammlung einheimischer Vögel, wodurch es möglich
wurde, zahlreiche Arten zu ergänzen.» (VB 1903–1905: 16).
Chemist, lived in Bern and became director of the Federal Mint.His widow donated his collection
of bird mounts to the NMBE.

Pochelon Gilbert (1911–1991)
Amateur-Ornithologe, Berufsoffizier, später Handelsvertreter; zuletzt wohnhaft
in Nyon.Leidenschaftlicher Eiersammler, der die meist selbst gesammelten Gelege
exakt, oft auch fotografisch, dokumentierte.Die Sammlung wurde dem NMBE
mit Vertrag vom 1. März 1990 als Schenkung überlassen.
