Wirbeltiersammlungen im Natur - Naturhistorisches Museum Bern

Animals forwarded to the NMBE by the Game Department of the Canton of Bern have been
registerd under various donator names (e.g. forestry or hunting administration, names of
individual game wardens or wildlife biologists).The office and the NMBE collaborated in
several projects that often resulted in an augmentation of the collection.
Total = > 1000 Mammalia and Aves: mainly game animals and protected birds (Ardeidae,
Falconiformes, Strigiformes) from the Canton of Bern (entry from 1960 onwards).

Ornithologen enthält Bälge und Flügelpräparate hauptsächlich von
Wasservögeln und Limikolen.Sie gelangte 1978 via WWF Schweiz (Umweltzentrum
Zofingen, H.C. Salzmann) ins NMBE.

Kocher Rudolf Friedrich (1811–1875)
Aus Thun stammend, geboren in Bern, Jugendzeit in Ferenbalm BE.Pharmacie-
Ausbildung in Thun und in Deutschland.Apotheker in Langenthal, nach 1844 in
Bern. 1851–52 Reise nach Italien, Griechenland, Palästina und Ägypten, wo er
selber Vögel sammelte.Teile dieser Sammlung schenkte er 1858 und 1864 dem
Museum.Zweite Reise nach Ägypten 1869.Besass eine umfangreiche Eier- und
Nestersammlung von schweizerischen Vögeln (Eier von 182 Arten und 82 Nester,
welche nach seinem Tod ins Museum gelangten).Durch testamentarische Verfügung
kamen dem Museum weitere Vogeleier sowie 32 montierte Vogelexemplare
aus Ägypten 9 zu.Der aktuelle Bestand an Eiern und Nestern ist wesentlich
geringer.
Citizen of Thun, born in Bern, early years in Ferenbalm BE.Pharmacist apprenticeship in
Thun and in Germany; pharmacist at first in Langenthal, after 1844 in Bern. 1851/52 journey
to Italy, Greece, Palestine and Egypt, where he collected birds, part of which he donated
to the NMBE in 1858 and 1864.Second travel to Egypt in 1862.Bequethed a considerable
collection of bird eggs (182 species) and 82 nests to the NMBE.Additional eggs
and 32 mounted birds from Egypt came to the museum through his brother.The number of
eggs and nests still extant is much smaller.
Total = 65 Aves: 36 skins from Egypt and “Nubia” (Sudan), 17 nests and 7 sets of eggs from
Switzerland (collected 1846–62).
