company.Hunted in the Canton of Bern, also hunting trips in Europe, North America and
Africa.From his large collection the NMBE selected 70 trophies, mainly Capreolus capreolus*
und Rupicapra rupicapra* from the Bernese part of the Swiss Plateau and the Oberland.

Ghidini Angelo (1876–1916)
Geboren in Lugano, Autodidakt, später gelernter Präparator, tätig in Genf.Vorzüglicher
Kenner der schweizerischen und speziell der Tessiner Wirbeltierfauna,
über die er zahlreiche Beiträge verfasste. 1916–17 Ankauf eines Teils seiner Privatsammlung
durch das NMBE.
Born in Lugano, skilled taxidermist.Expert for the fauna of Switzerland and of the Canton
of Tessin in particular.Author of numerous faunistic articles.In 1916/17 acquisition of a
part of his private collection by the NMBE.
Total = 412: Mammalia 348 (106 Insectivora, among others Sorex antinorii Bonaparte,
1840; 161 Rodentia), 13 Aves, 55 Amphibia, from the Canton of Tessin, Northern Italy and
Southern France.

Girtanner Georg Albert (1839–1907)
Arzt (Dr.med.) in St.Gallen, Ornithologe, mit speziellem Interesse für Greifvögel
(Bartgeier).Mitglied der St.Galler Museumskommission und der Deutschen Ornithologen-Gesellschaft.Stand
in Verbindung mit Präparator Ernst Heinrich Zollikofer
(1859–1930) und in brieflichem Kontakt mit dem habsburgischen Kronprinzen
Erzherzog Rudolf.Aktenkundig ist einerseits der Ankauf von 80 Präparaten
von einer seiner Töchter durch den Museumsverein* (1958).Andererseits werden
bereits in den Jahren 1912–14 Ankäufe von einem Herrn «Girtanner in Clarens»
erwähnt; bei dieser Person handelt es sich höchstwahrscheinlich um seinen
Sohn Karl [Charles] Emil Girtanner (1879–1946).
Physician in St.Gallen, ornithologist with a special interest in birds of prey.Member of the
German Ornithological Society and of the committee of the Natural History Museum in
St.Gallen. Was in contact with the outstanding Swiss taxidermist Zollikofer and corresponded
with the Archduke Rudolf, heir of the Hapsburg crown.The Friends of the Museum
acquired bird and mammal mounts from Girtanner’s family in 1958.Other specimens were
acquired much earlier (1912–14) from a certain «Girtanner in Clarens», most probably his
son Karl [Charles] Emil Girtanner (1879–1946).
