Guggisberg Charles Albert Walter (1913–1980)
Zoologiestudium in Bern, Gymnasiallehrerdiplom, danach Studien am Imperial
College of Science and Technology in London.Während des 2.Weltkriegs als Lehrer
in der Schweiz tätig.Ab 1945 Field Officer am Medical Research Laboratory in
Nairobi (Kenia), WHO Consultant in Ostafrika, Dr.h.c. der Universität Bern (1977);
von 1969 bis zu seinem Tod selbständiger Schriftsteller, Wildfotograf und Leiter
wissenschaftlicher Safaris.Überliess dem NMBE neben ostafrikanischen Carnivoren
und Insektenfressern seine Sammlung afrikanischer Nagetiere, eine grosse,
gut dokumentierte Diasammlung sowie eine umfangreiche Bibliothek.Verfasser
zahlreicher Bücher über die Fauna Afrikas und wissenschaftlicher Beiträge.

Total = 222: 221 Mammalia, the majority (168 specimens) are skulls and skins of rodents
(Muridae, Cricetidae) from Kenya; 22 Carnivora, 20 Insectivora and 5 Primates are from
East Africa (1952–69).

Güntert Marcel (*1946)
Zoologiestudium an der Universität Zürich, Assistent am Zoologischen Museum
der Universität Zürich. 1980 Dissertation, danach Post-Doc-Aufenthalt an der
Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.Ende 1982 Rückkehr als Oberassistent
ans Zoologische Museum Zürich, auf 1. 1. 1985 Wahl zum Direktor des NMBE.Seit
1988 Lehrauftrag für Biologie der Wirbeltiere und Wildbiologie am Zoologischen
Institut der Universität Bern, 1994 Honorarprofessur.Der Beitrag zur Sammlung
besteht aus Zufallsfunden von Säugetieren und Vögeln, mehrheitlich aus der
Schweiz.
