that Sheaffer failed to conduct basic preflight
planning and got lost soon after
departure from Smoketown. The FAA also
said that Sheaffer did not make contact
after being intercepted near Washington by
a Black Hawk helicopter and a Citation jet.
Very expensive landings…
One day, we were sitting around listening to
the scanner, when a Tomahawk from a local
flight school announced inbound for circuits.
The controllers asked for the PPR #, and
the pilot said they didn’t know about one.
We expected the aircraft to turn away, but
the controller cleared them right-base for
29. We now pick up the audio from this
momentous day:
Tomahawk: «F-XAA is final 29,
touch and go.»
Tower: «XAA is cleared touch
and go, 29».
{Several more circuits later...}
Tomahawk: «F-XAA is final 29,
touch and go»
Tower: «F-XAA is cleared touch and
go, 29. How many more
circuits were you planning
on making?»
Tomahawk: «We thought we’d make
one or two more.»
because we were calculating
your landing fees so far, and
Airliner dodges driver
at Cyprus airport
NICOSIA (Reuters) - Cyprus international
airport operations were disrupted when a
man drove a car under parked planes and
forced on taxing airliner to change course
to avoid a collision, authorities said.
A chase to catch the driver, identified as a
30-year-old Greek, disrupted airport traffic
on Wednesday night. Control tower workers
raised the alarm after seeing a car
speeding under parked aircraft at Larnaca
airport on Cyprus’s southeast coast.
A Cyprus Airways jet which had just landed
had to change course to avoid collision. «The
car was heading straight for us,» the pilot
said. The man was being questioned by police,
who suspect he was fleeing after being
caught taking biscuits from a nearby bakery.
