Less than one month left until Berlin Art Week begins! Grab the brightest highlight
you can find and mark your calendars: From September 11th until the 16th, the
city will be taken over by art events – including fairs, exhibitions and parties.
The massive hangar of Tempelhof Airport, once one of the largest buildings in the
whole of Europe, will host one of the main events of the week: The eighth edition
of Preview Berlin Art Fair. It will be the place to find the freshest trends in the art
scene, allowing respected galleries to present to Berlin and the rest of the world their
promising artists. Lucky for our readers: berlin-artparasites will provide up-to-theminute
coverage of Preview Berlin and will even have daily ticket-giveaways for our
readers to be able to attend the fair!
How to Fit Into the Art Market
Preview Berlin is not only interested in showing well-established artists, this is also
a unique opportunity for emerging ones. The transition period between university
and a professional career is nowadays hard for most of the people. When it comes
to artists, the situation can get even more complicated and achieving artistic
independence might take years. Showing particular interest in this issue, Preview
Berlin offers an initiative called „Focus Academy,“ which allow supcoming artists to
gain initial experience in the art market, in addition to attracting the attention of the
media to their work or even possible art buyers. Turning to art universities, the event
will gather graduates from the best eight German art academies.
Establishing Berlin as an Art Capital
In a huge effort to aggregate energies from different sources and unite different exhibition
formats (such as ABC – Art Berlin Contemporary and the main art institutions
of Berlin), the first Berlin Art Week is an attempt to set Berlin up as the ultimate and
most desired art location. Preview Berlin will be held within the framework of the Art
Week, taking a leading role in undertaking Berlin as an art capital, when bringing
solidarity to the local art field, while securing international recognition.
