Preview Berlin: Interview with the Art Fair Crash artist Yuki Itoda
THE GUY WHO CRASHED THE ART FAIR
A curious Japanese artist walking around with his art at Preview Berlin caught our attention - since
he was not exhibiting formally, he decided to crash the art fair!
Asking the various people scattered around Preview Berlin Art Fair at Tempelhof Airport what they
were doing at the Art Fair, it‘s easy to conclude that most of the visitors are either artists or curious
tourists. So far, no big surprises. And then everything changed: One artist in particular caught my
attention; a long-haired guy from Tokyo named Yuki Itoda, who actually brought his work himself
to show to all the gallerists and visitors, was walking around presenting his artwork to anyone who
would see or listen to him. Preview Berlin officially has an art fair crasher!
„Preview is a good place to meet people, so I just put a smile in my face and go from booth to
booth with my work,“ says Yuki Itoda. It is for sure a good strategy, because no one who sees a
guy in black leather pants holding a peace of art can continue unscathed. And he is actually a
really appealing person, who makes you want to know more about him and his work.
The funny part is his opinion about the Preview. When asked about it, he said there wasn‘t a lot
of creative stuff, and that it was way too comercial. A weird comment for someone who is trying
to sell his art. But the best comes at the end, when I asked if he would like to expose his work at
Preview: „Yes, I would love to, its a really nice place.“
Ok, that makes sense... Either way, we love art fair crashers!
