recognized healers with<strong>in</strong> their communities,<br />

such as exorcists and spirit media, who<br />

employ special heal<strong>in</strong>g arts associated with<br />

the supernatural. Their methods and<br />

beliefs are so diverse as to preclude their<br />

<strong>in</strong>corporation <strong>in</strong> any formal system.<br />

Individual governments will have to decide<br />

on what place, if any, to accord them.<br />

Countries’ primary concern should be<br />

to encourage the utilization of those<br />

elements of traditional medic<strong>in</strong>e which are<br />

of value <strong>in</strong> their national health services.<br />

In this modern age, the rich heritage of<br />

traditional medic<strong>in</strong>e should not rema<strong>in</strong> the<br />

exclusive or esoteric <strong>in</strong>terest of only a few.<br />
