Diploma Course <strong>in</strong> Ayurveda<br />

The objective of this one-year course<br />

(divided <strong>in</strong>to three semesters of four months<br />

each) is to provide <strong>in</strong>tensive theoretical and<br />

practical tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Ayurveda, cover<strong>in</strong>g<br />

most of the five-year degree course <strong>in</strong><br />

Ayurveda. This course is designed for the<br />

graduates of modern medic<strong>in</strong>e or any other<br />

traditional medic<strong>in</strong>e to prepare them to<br />

become efficient Ayurvedic practitioners.<br />

The details of the subjects are, basic<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of Ayurveda, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g hygiene<br />

and public health, detailed study of<br />

medic<strong>in</strong>al plants, their properties and uses<br />

(Dravyaguna), Ayurvedic m<strong>in</strong>eral, herbal<br />

and aquatic drugs (Rasa Shastra), herbal<br />

pharmaceutical preparations (Bhaishajya<br />

Kalpana), <strong>in</strong>tensive tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> traditional<br />

and classical preparation of Ayurvedic<br />

medic<strong>in</strong>es; Ayurvedic diagnostic<br />

procedures, pathology and pathogenesis<br />

(Roga Nidana), Kayachikitsa – <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />

medic<strong>in</strong>e, Rasayana – rejuvenation therapy<br />

<strong>in</strong> the promotion and preservation of health<br />

and the treatment of various chronic<br />

illnesses, Vajikarana – promotion of<br />

reproductive health, Manas Roga –<br />

psychiatry, Panchakarma, its role <strong>in</strong> the<br />

preservation and promotion of health and<br />

treatment of chronic degenerative diseases,<br />

Yoga and nature cure; Kaumarabhritya,<br />

Prasuti and Striroga – paediatrics, obstetrics<br />

and gynaecology, Shalya – surgery,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Ksharasutra preparation and<br />

management of ano-rectal diseases,<br />

Shalakya – ophthalmology and otorh<strong>in</strong>olaryngology,<br />

Pathyapathya – Ayurvedic<br />

dietetic preparations and management.<br />

Introductory Course <strong>in</strong> Ayurveda<br />

This three-month course is designed to<br />

impart basic knowledge of Ayurveda to<br />

scholars hav<strong>in</strong>g a medical background or<br />

graduation <strong>in</strong> bio-sciences or <strong>in</strong> fields allied<br />

to medic<strong>in</strong>e. The details of the subjects<br />

Ayurveda<br />

under this course are, basic pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of<br />

Ayurveda, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Swasthavritta (hygiene<br />

and positive health), the fundamentals of<br />

herbo-m<strong>in</strong>eral Materia Medica and<br />

pharmaceutics, the fundamentals of<br />

diagnosis and pathogenesis of diseases<br />

(Nidana), the fundamentals of treatment<br />

(Chikitsa) <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Panchakarma<br />

(<strong>in</strong>ternal purification and massage<br />

therapies), Rasayana (geriatrics and<br />

rejuvenation therapy), fundamentals of<br />

surgery (Shalya) <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Ksharasootra<br />

(alkal<strong>in</strong>e thread cauterization), Agnikarma<br />

(cauterization), Jalaukavacharana (leech<br />

application), etc., management of common<br />

cl<strong>in</strong>ical conditions through herbal<br />

preparation.<br />

Bachelor of Pharmacy <strong>in</strong><br />

Ayurveda [B.Pharm (Ayu)]<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> aim of this four-year Bachelor<br />

Degree Course is to produce high quality<br />

technologists capable of produc<strong>in</strong>g quality<br />

Ayurvedic drugs by employ<strong>in</strong>g traditional,<br />

modern or upgraded or modified<br />

traditional techniques as well as controll<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g their quality. The course<br />

has been planned <strong>in</strong> such a manner that<br />

the personnel complet<strong>in</strong>g it should be<br />

capable of meet<strong>in</strong>g different requirements<br />

of both the manufactur<strong>in</strong>g and consumer<br />

sectors for Ayurvedic drugs and other<br />

traditional systems of medic<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

Master of Pharmacy <strong>in</strong> Ayurveda<br />

[M. Pharm (Ayu)]<br />

This two-year Master’s Degree course is<br />

designed to provide <strong>in</strong>-depth knowledge of<br />

Ayurvedic drugs, their method of<br />

manufactur<strong>in</strong>g and also their<br />

standardization and quality control aspects<br />

with specialization <strong>in</strong> two subjects:<br />

Pharmaceutics of Ayurvedic Drugs and<br />

Quality Control and Standardization of<br />

Ayurvedic Drugs.<br />
