Indonesi<strong>an</strong> Climate Variability due to Solar Terrestrial Interaction<br />

Since a long time ago Sun as the main source of energy of the Earth has been consi<strong>der</strong>ed to<br />

influence the climate. Various data <strong>an</strong>d methods have been used to show the relationship<br />

between solar activity <strong>an</strong>d climate. This influence may be globally, locally, or regionally, with<br />

or without delay time. Indonesia, as located in equator, between two continents <strong>an</strong>d two<br />

oce<strong>an</strong>s become very import<strong>an</strong>t in global atmospheric convection affecting climate by induces<br />

<strong>an</strong>d controls the atmospheric <strong>an</strong>d oce<strong>an</strong>ic circulations.<br />

To ensure the solar activity affecting in cloud cover over Indonesia we compare the period of<br />

both cloud cover all over Indonesia <strong>an</strong>d solar activity parameter, f10.7 by using wavelet<br />

<strong>an</strong>alysis. We found a declining period about 11 years indicating the solar signal especially for<br />

dry seasons (June-August) from 1976-1995 cloud cover satellite data <strong>an</strong>d other signal with the<br />

period of about 6 years down to 3 years. We suggested that eastern Indonesia is domin<strong>an</strong>tly<br />

influenced by ENSO <strong>an</strong>d western by IOD. Ponti<strong>an</strong>ak, which represent middle Indonesi<strong>an</strong><br />

region is suggested correlated strongly with solar activity cycle.
