Mr Durkan asked the Minister of the Environment for an update on his planned legislative programme<br />

for the current <strong>Assembly</strong> mandate.<br />

Mr Attwood: The Marine Bill, which I introduced <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Assembly</strong> in<br />

February 2012, is currently at Committee stage. This Bill will allow the better management of the<br />

waters around our coasts <strong>to</strong> derive more benefit from their use and achieve better protection for the<br />

rich environment.<br />

This will help achieve the aim of having clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse oceans<br />

and seas and ensure that a planned approach is taken <strong>to</strong> managing activities and developments within<br />

the marine area in a sustainable manner.<br />

Additionally I propose, subject <strong>to</strong> Executive approval, <strong>to</strong> introduce 9 Bills <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Assembly</strong> between now<br />

and March 2015. These are:-
