Acute Hospitals: Funding<br />

Mr Campbell asked Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety <strong>to</strong> detail the <strong>to</strong>tal level of<br />

funding allocated <strong>to</strong> each acute hospital across the 2011-15 budgetary period.<br />

New Build for Oakridge Social Education Centre, Dungannon<br />

Lord Morrow asked the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety what is the timescale for<br />

the new build for Oakridge Social Education Centre, Dungannon.<br />

Mr Poots: The Southern Health and Social Care Trust is currently developing the business case for<br />

Oakridge Social Education Centre. Upon receipt, the business case will need <strong>to</strong> be assessed and<br />

approved by my Department and by the Department of Finance and Personnel.<br />

Once the business case has been approved, I will consider the timing of this and other projects in light<br />

of my available budget.<br />

Nursing and Midwifery Non-Means Tested Award<br />

Mr P Ramsey asked the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety why the nursing and<br />

midwifery non-means tested award is being reduced by his Department; and how he intends <strong>to</strong> support<br />

nursing and midwifery students who may be struggling in the current economic climate.<br />

Mr Poots: My Department is currently consulting on the Review of Healthcare Bursaries and the<br />

proposals in relation <strong>to</strong> nursing and midwifery are aimed at beginning <strong>to</strong> harmonise arrangements with<br />

other health and social care students.<br />

The current proposal is for a reduction from £6055 <strong>to</strong> £5165 per annum. Unlike bursary provision<br />

for the other healthcare professions, this is a non means-tested entitlement which continues <strong>to</strong> be<br />

available <strong>to</strong> all nursing and midwifery students.<br />

Book and Uniform Allowance for Nursing and Midwifery Students<br />

Mr P Ramsey asked the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety why the one-off book<br />

and uniform allowance for nursing and midwifery students is being discontinued, given the benefit it<br />

provides for students, particularly students from low-income backgrounds.<br />
