Preparing to upgrade Roaming User
Profiles
Chapter 4: Upgrading Dragon
Step 1: Install Dragon NaturallySpeaking on the
computer where you upgrade the Dragon 10.x or
11.x Master Roaming User Profiles
Nuance recommends that administrators install Dragon NaturallySpeaking on the computer where
the Dragon 10.x or 11.x Master Roaming User Profiles are located. If that is not possible, Nuance
recommends that administrators install Dragon NaturallySpeaking on a separate computer where
they will perform the upgrades.

Notes:
n If during the installation or upgrade, you see the Upgrade existing speech files to work with
this installation prompt, be sure to leave this option unchecked. You can manually running
the User Profile Upgrade Wizard in a later step.
n If you are unable to install Dragon where the Dragon 10.x or 11.x Master Roaming User Profiles
are located, Nuance recommends that you install Dragon NaturallySpeaking on a separate
computer where you perform the upgrades. For more information, see Upgrading Roaming User
Profiles: Overview.
n You can only upgrade from Dragon 10.x or greater to Dragon 12. Upgrading from Dragon 9.x or
earlier to Dragon 12 is not supported
n If upgrading from Dragon 8.x or earlier to Dragon NaturallySpeaking , version 8.x or earlier
custom words and commands can be re-used in Dragon NaturallySpeaking . See the Dragon
Help for information on exporting and importing custom words and commands:
i. In Dragon 8.x or earlier, export the custom words and commands
ii. In Dragon NaturallySpeaking , create a new User Profile.
iii. In Dragon NaturallySpeaking , import the custom words and commands
Step 2: On the Dragon 10.x or 11.x end-user
systems that use the Roaming feature
On the end-user systems where the end-users dictate using the Dragon 10.x or 11.x Roaming feature,
save and close any open User Profiles on each Dragon 10.x or 11.x system that uses the Roaming
feature.
Note: If there is no time when all the Roaming User Profiles are not in use (for example, in a hospital
where some physicians use Dragon during a night shift), administrators can upgrade different
groups of Roaming User Profiles at different times.
