2.13 We have used data from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) to track changes<br />

in median gross weekly <strong>pay</strong>16 for our remit group, compared with other employees,<br />

as shown in Table 2.5, though this does not take into account differences in workforce<br />

characteristics:<br />

Median <strong>pay</strong> for the remit group as a whole exceeds that in the wider economy and<br />

in the private sector, but is less than in the public sector. The increase in median <strong>pay</strong><br />

for <strong>NHS</strong>PRB staff between 2009 and 2010 exceeded that in the whole economy and<br />

the public sector;<br />

<strong>NHS</strong> nurses’ and midwives’ median <strong>pay</strong> was more than that for ‘associate<br />

professional and technical occupations’ 17 .<br />
