The daughter that married Pulang-Gana was<br />

called Trentom-Tanah-Turnboh, and sometimes Setang-<br />

goi-Tanggoi-B uloh .<br />

In process <strong>of</strong> time Pulang-Gana's wife gave birth to a<br />

girl, who was very much admired by all, and greatly loved<br />

by her parents.<br />

When <strong>the</strong> child was a few <strong>years</strong> old, she came one day<br />

to her fci<strong>the</strong>r and mo<strong>the</strong>r and asked what property <strong>the</strong>y<br />

intended to leave her. The mo<strong>the</strong>r showed her <strong>the</strong><br />

valuable jars and brassware that she possessed, all <strong>of</strong><br />

which were to belong to her child. Then <strong>the</strong> little girl<br />

asked her fa<strong>the</strong>r what he had to give her. Pulang-Gana<br />

had no property to leave to his daughter. Years ago he<br />

had come by chance to this house <strong>of</strong> Rajah Shua, bringing<br />

nothing with him, and unless his bro<strong>the</strong>rs gave him a<br />

share <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir fa<strong>the</strong>r's property, he would have nothing<br />

to leave his daughter. So he told her to be content with<br />

what her mo<strong>the</strong>r gave her. She would be very rich<br />

without anything from him. But she was not satisfied<br />

with this reply, and cried because her fa<strong>the</strong>r said he had<br />

nothing to give her.<br />

When Pulang-Gana saw how sad his child was he said<br />

to his fa<strong>the</strong>r-in-law that he would like to pay a visit to<br />

his bro<strong>the</strong>rs, and ask <strong>the</strong>m for his share <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> property,<br />

that he might have something to give his daughter.<br />

Rijah Shua told him he might go to <strong>the</strong>m, but warned<br />

him that probably he would not have a kind reception,<br />

and advised him not to be away long, but to return as<br />

soon as possible.<br />

Pulang-Gana started on his journey<br />

to his old home,<br />

wondering how his bro<strong>the</strong>rs would receive him after his<br />

long absence, lie had no difficulty in finding his way,
